"Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb who threatens Safe Abortion and Reproductive Justice Visits Korea"
"We condemn Samsung SDI and LG Energy Solutions for joint venture plan with Governor of Indiana that threatens reproductive health and rights!"
From August 25 to 27, U.S. Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb will visit Korea to discuss joint ventures and partnerships with Samsung SDI and LG Energy Solutions. This is because Samsung SDI, Stellantis, and LG Energy Solutions will set up an EV battery plant in Indiana through Ultium Cells LLC, a joint venture with General Motors (GM).
Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb was the one who approved SB 1, the worst kind of restriction law, on August 5, which severely restricts the right to safe abortion.
Under this law, Indiana state now punishes all abortions except in cases where the life of a pregnant woman is at risk, a pregnancy resulting from rape or incest, or fatal to the fetus. Even in these exceptions, the complex procedural conditions make it virtually impossible to achieve safe abortion. In addition, a recent survey found that about 80% of obstetrics and gynecology trainees said they would leave Indiana, as doctors' licenses to provide medical services for abortion could also be revoked.
Indiana already has very high maternal and infant mortality rates due to restrictions on safe abortion. Also, Indiana has a history of severe reproductive rights violations for Asian American and migrant women.
We strongly condemn Governor Eric Holcomb, who threatens lives and exacerbates inequality and violence with severe penalties and restrictions on abortion. We stand in solidarity with those fighting in Indiana, including the Indiana chapter of the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum (NAPAWF). We will fight together by gathering our strength and voice. We also condemn Samsung SDI and Stellantis, LG ES, GM, and Ultium Cells LLC's discussion of a joint venture with the Indiana Governor. And we demand that the investment plan be withdrawn.
- We condemn Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb for violating health and reproductive rights, exacerbating inequality and violence with a near-total abortion ban.
-We demand that Samsung SDI and Stellantis, LG ES, GM, and Ultium Cells LLC withdraw their joint venture plan with Indiana State, which violates reproductive rights!
-We demand that the America Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) express opposition to SB 1!
